Hemkund
Shri Hemkund Sahib, also known as Gurudwara Shri
Hemkund Sahib, is a revered Sikh shrine located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand,
India. Situated at an altitude of 4,632 meters (15,197 feet), it is one of the highest
Gurudwaras in the world. The name “Hemkund” literally means “Lake of Snow,” and the site is
surrounded by seven snow-capped peaks and crystal-clear glacial waters. The shrine is
dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, and is a significant pilgrimage site
for Sikhs.
